What to Wear to a Party, Wedding, Night Out This Summer...a Review of the Delores Dress and the Brigitte Metallic Heels!

Summer Wedding/Party/Night Out in Style!!!
Summer Wedding/Party/Night Out in Style!!! - by dinagideon on Polyvore.com
Quick post on something some of you ladies out there may care about...bridesmaids/party dresses for summer. Because I am going to be a bridesmaid this summer, I have been spending time looking for dresses that could serve the purpose of being a maid to a bride and also be useful in a non-wedding. Enter the Delores dress and the Brigitte Metallic heels. (They are both still for sale on J. Crew--what kills me about the dress is that I bought it for way cheaper than it is available on-line for now--with all those promos at Christmas--I got it for a song. I believe the heels are in final sale.)

So how does it work in real life? Not too bad. I want you to bear in mind this is a size 8 and I have about 5 pounds left before it is a PERFECT fit...and since the wedding or any conceivable night out for me is at least one month away, I think I will be okay making the goal in time. The Brigitte heels fit the bill perfectly...and are not subject to the whims of my postpartum weight loss.

Warning--if you have ladies in your wedding party who are a bit busty or carry their weight in their waist--this may not be the dress for you all. I have a small-ish waist and I think it is a bit tight. The shoulders are also a bit wide, so if any of your ladies are narrower in the shoulders, this may be difficult for them to wear. But those that can wear it--SHOULD. I walked out in this and my hubby was like, "Woo-wee...where are you going wearing that?"

This is a silk taffeta, so if you are a bit retiring, this may not be a go-to party dress. It is a bit bright in this flamingo color, but you know I don't exactly shy away from color!!!

I did not go anywhere tonight, just felt like dressing up and doing a review for you all. ;)

Here is a close-up of the heels. These are pretty darn comfy considering they are heels and strappy at that.

Yes, ladies, don't worry, I will get a pedicure before I wear these in public. :) (Just in case some of you thought I was stupid...)

Have a great night!!!

Colorful for school...

Since I was colorful and NOT fancy yesterday at school (the walk home was actually really nice), I decided to be Ms. Fancy Pants today. Well not fancy pants, more fancy blazer, but you get my drift.

Above is the polyvore set of my outfit. I love this blazer. The color is amazing in real life, this saturated cobalt blue. The fit is fantastic now that I have lost a few pounds from when I bought it (size 10)...definitely a size UP situation. The material is so soft and so warm (didn't need a coat today). The pants are my trusty surplus chinos in buttercup, a muted mustard yellow. I wear these in a 12, and would say these are a size UP as well (I am now wearing 10s in all the other J. Crew pants). The tee is the sequin placket tee in ivory and it is quite large in a medium. And the V is REALLY LOW, so to save myself from indecency, I used a safety pin to close off the bottom inch (can't even tell). The belt is to cinch in the blazer, and I love the way it turned out. Makes me look tiny in the waist! Love it! And the color, so bright and a great contrast to the blue in the ecole jacket. The shoes are Merona Makenna from Target. They were so inexpensive, yet so stylish. J. Crew would have had a 150 dollar version. Target--29.99 or something like that!

Here I am wearing it this morning before I left for school.

Here is the close-up of the placket and belt. The safety pin is at the bottom. Eventually I will sew it up, but not now...no time (well except to blog). :)

I love this color but think if only I could be a little bit darker...I look pale here. Whatever! Life goes on...it's not like getting a tan is even an option for me (hello, skin cancer!). I have had multiple relatives get skin cancer so I am in that "high risk--better wear SPF 70 and a hat" category!

Richmond on a cold day outfit on me...

These were taken on January 18, 2009. Top one taken by my husband, bottom one by me in the mirror.

The bottom one is me against a matching wall near Cary Street. :) Love it!

RIchmond on a cold day...

I wore this when we went to Cary Street (on Sunday, Jan. 18) and did awesome shopping and ate at one of my favorite restaurants...Can Can. I will post pics of me wearing it in real life later and I will post a review of Can Can as well.

The Ecole jacket is cobalt...and a GORGEOUS color in real life. The cords I wore are not J. Crew but a similar color and cut. The Xhiliration shoes are plum and not super-comfortable, but very cute detailing makes the shoes worth it. The Merino turtleneck is this saturated wine color and the wool itself is soft and warm. I actually think I prefer J. Crew merino to their cashmere. The Meribel scarf is so long it is crazy...but very warm, chic, and an awesome color. The pillow ring is dainty and special and looks very nice on my finger.
