OOTDs: Some Regular Clothes. Not for Teaching.

Day: Wednesday, September 16, 2015.

Where:  School Meeting followed by Winesday.

Ease of Wear: (4.5 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.) This Boden jersey dress is very comfortable, I dig that it is tighter without being constricting.  It also has shaping at the top part of the dress, which draws the eyes up from my hips/bottom, aka my "trouble" spots.

Anecdote of the Day: This was the last Winesday before I left for my cruise (on the 20th).  When I got back to town, the next Winesday there were threats of no more Winesdays (NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!) and a few of my most favorite employees had received the ax, even though they were all amazing and most deserving of promotions/more money and not firings.  Stupid Whole Foods.  The Winesdays are still on (phew!), but those employees aren't back.  Boo.

Day: Tuesday, September 29, 2015.

Where:  Preschool, Swimming, Old Town Alexandria.

Ease of Wear: (4.75 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.)  Well, gee, I am basically wearing an adult nightgown outside, but because it is shirred just right, and not of flannel, I can wear it and not draw any suspicions.  The scarf helped keep me warm, though I ended up taking it off partway through the day.

Anecdote of the Day: I never had a preschool run where there wasn't a kid attached to me (either CW as a baby, or Angus as a baby), and wow, it certainly is freeing not having any children attached to me at all.  I really enjoyed swimming and going to Old Town with only myself to worry about.

Day: Sunday, October 4, 2015.

Where:  Church.

Ease of Wear: (4.25 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.) I haven't worn a formal skirt in a while.  I felt compelled to wear this because it was so gross and grey out and felt like matching the skies.  It was fairly comfy, the skirt sits well on my hips and waist, and the tights, sweatshirt, and shoes fit with just the right amount of ease.

Anecdote of the Day:  I liked the look, but I was surprised by how many Instagram friends liked it, too.  I never do these monochromatic/neutral looks, and I guess people were happy to see me in something other than eye-searing color and pattern, lol.

Day: Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

Where:  Funeral of a childhood friend and a school meeting.

Ease of Wear: (4.25 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.)  Well I knew I would be walking to the funeral from my school since the parking is a bear around the church where the funeral was to be held.  I also knew I would have Angus in the stroller, so I had to wear comfy shoes for that, too.  Fortunately this older Boden Limited Edition dress is made of a jersey ponte, and the shoes are flat without being so flat that they are hard to walk in.  I don't wear this dress often, but I appreciate it for occasions like this, one where reverence and formality are key.

Anecdote of the Day: My friend went to grade school and high school with me, and now I teach with her mom, who I have known forever.  I feel for her mom, so if you are a praying type, do send some prayers her way and for the rest of the family.

On another note, I have now seen five of my high school friends die before age 40.  I know death is part of life, but it seem so shocking to lose so many so young.  We didn't even have that large of a graduating class (~250).

Day: Tuesday, October 6, 2015.

Where:  Preschool, Swimming, Huntley Meadows for a walk, and the other school run.

Ease of Wear: (4.25 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.)  I found the outfit most comfortable after wearing it for a bit.  The J. Crew Reese pants are great, but sit funny sometimes...it's like I have to find their sweet spot on my hips.  At least they come in a tall length so I can have proper full length pants.  It got really warm that afternoon.  Glad to have it, but wore the wrong top.  Oops.

Anecdote of the Day: I (heart) Huntley Meadows so much.  It is a local wetland/forest preserve that has a boardwalk over the wetland portion.  We always see something, whether it be a snake, a beaver, a heron, etc.  This time was huge numbers of box turtles out sunning themselves.  Every time Angus said (more like like loudly spoke), "ooh look at the turtles, Momma," they would dive off their sunning logs and go hide.  Can't blame them.  He would look terrifying to me if I was their size.

Day: Sunday, October 11, 2015.

Where:  Lazy day at home.

Ease of Wear: (4.5 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.) I feel like I am on repeat here.  Loose fit pants, a sweatshirt, and some Birkenstocks.  'Nuff said.

Day: Saturday, October 10, 2015.

Where:  Housewarming Party.

Ease of Wear: (4.5 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.)  I love how polished this looks without being polished "feeling."  The Turner pants will always be in heavy rotation in my closet (every color I have fits well no matter what I am feeling that day, weight wise).  Even with the elastic banding at the cuff, they still manage to suitable for my version of dressy.  The linen Lena top is a bit wrinkle-prone, but manages to cut a nice shape without being too form-fitting.  (It actually swings away from my hips, so its a-line shape is perfect for my pear shape.)

Outfit Details:  Top, Boden (here on clearance, I took a size 6); Pants, J. Crew (they are now available in wool--yes, I bought them in grey); Shoes, Target; Sunglasses, Anthropologie.

Anecdote of the Day: Our minivan's battery died.  We manage to get it restarted and went to the housewarming party.  It started again after the party, so we went to Joann's since I needed to pick up some patterns.  That's where trouble started again.  No battery power.  We found the nicest person in the world to take ten minutes of her time after work (she had just gotten off) and she let us jump the van with her engine.  I need to make sure to pay that forward big time.  :-)

OOTD: Kids Rule Our World.

I overdid it last weekend, you all.  ;)

Saturday and Sunday were overtaxing, in a good way, of course, but still overtaxing.

Rex finished out his tee ball season first thing Saturday morning, but because this is our world of three kids, it wasn't like we could just go home and be done with the day.  See Rex is now at that age where incentives (aka bribery) works really well to get him to try his hardest (aka what it seems every other kid his age does with no problem).  So this last Saturday we let him know that if he tried his hardest to play a great game (listen to the coach, watch the ball in play, run fast to the bases, etc.) we would take him to McDonald's for lunch.  McDonald's works every time.  Every time.  I think it may have worked on me when I was that age, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.  McD's is crack for kids, more addictive, though, based on how many times a day my kids ask me when the next time they get to go to McDonald's is...today's count, 42.  (No.  Not really.  Only 6.)

After that, CW had a "fairy princess" birthday party to go to, and I was the one to take her, because as much as Mr. Dina likes prancing around with elves and other fantastical Hobbit-like creatures (and you all think I am kidding--the man has TWO action figure ROOMS!), he decided that these fairies at this party weren't manly enough for him, so I got tasked with the pixie dust duty.

Only then could I go home.  Angus joined me for the day, but then he always is with me, kind of like my driver's license, which I put to good use driving all over hell's half acre (also known as the NOVA suburbs).

I can only imagine how much more our kids will rule our world when Angus is old enough to have his own "firetruck and policeman" birthday parties of his own to go to.

Sunday was its own hootenanny, but I'll bore you all with that tale sometime later.  ;)

Open up the photo for more info on the pieces, but I will let you know that the Summer Shirt Dress is around again this year (I am wearing last year's version).  I suspect that some of the shades and sizes will make it to clearance (which should be happening soon). If you like it and would like to get it for a good price, I will definitely be announcing the start of the clearance sale, so definitely wait until then.

The shoes are the glitterati flats and because I am a sucker for CW and her adorable magpie ways, when the crewcuts version went on sale (with an extra 30% off), I got them for her, too.  And, yep, she wore them that day.  (Can you think of anything better for a fairy princess party?)

I like to smile.  So I took another photo.

Mr. Dina took this one of Angus and me.  I love him in these colors, just like Rex, he really does well in the lime green and aqua blue colors.

This is what Mr. Dina and I do at the tee ball games when we are bored.  We find ways of amusing Angus which amuses us. 

Rex got the game ball, so yep, the "incentive" worked.

OOTD: Leftover Shorts Shots.

I have a love/hate affair with shorts.  I really truly love them in the middle of summer when it is so hot and gross that I don't want anything coming close to my skin, but then it (often) turns to hate when I discover that I like having longer pants and skirts on because I hate my legs sticking to the car seat and each other.  And linen shorts that are just linen?  They are of the devil because over the course of a day they will wrinkle to a point where the front of the shorts are substantially shorter than the back, making my wardrobe choice look ridiculous.

I also think someone should start a company where all they sell are tall shorts and skirts.  Almost all companies sell tall pants now, and many sell tall dresses, but almost no one sells tall shorts and skirts.  How often have I turned away from a cute pair of shorts solely because I knew that a pair would be too short, too tight, and far too low in the rise?  And no...I do not only want to wear walking (bermuda) shorts.  Skirts, too!  18.5 inches for a mini seems reasonable, 15 is not reasonable, it is nearly scandalous!  ;)

Onto my leftover shorts shots (I almost always get excited by my dress ootds, and always publish those fairly quickly...as you can see, I even have a shorts shots in here from back when I was pregnant!)...

No tee ball gown that day!  I decided for one of Rex's recent tee ball games I would break out a pair of J. Crew wide stripe board shorts (size 10, I usually size up in shorter inseams).  The shorts were comfy and because they have some nylon (you can take them swimming, if you so desire), they didn't wrinkle.

I topped off the shorts with a blousy Anthro top from a bagizillion years ago, some Cole Haan sandals, and the Anthro Gramercy Shades.

From the front.  That blouse is probably a bit too blousy, I may need to sell it (it is a medium, back from when I weighed more).

I love these patchwork madras bermuda shorts from J. Crew.  I bought them years ago and wear them every summer without fail.  They feel good, ya know?  These are another pair that wear well and look almost better worn-in than fresh out of the wash.

I love the garment dyed linen cable knit sweater, mainly because the pink is just SO VERY PINK.  CW saw me in it and exclaimed, "Oh, momma, that is my most favorite shirt that you have EVER worn."  She is easy to please.

The neckace and clutch (Brompton clutch in safari cat) are from J. Crew, as well.  The Naturalizer shoes are from DSW.  I wasn't sure if nude colored loafers were a good idea, but they actually work okay with this outfit.

This outfit made me feel cool.  I just wish I could have used another pair of shorts with the outfit, but I am still pulling them out of pregnancy storage (the four seconds of time I have in my day when I am not feeding a child or two or three, or putting out child "brush-fires," or running errands, or blogging, I try to get some storage related things done, but that usually gets chopped).

These shorts are mimi Maternity and fit, but are pretty saggy through the crotch because of the whole "I am not pregnant anymore" thing.  Blegh.

I think I will try using my loft black shorts the next time I wear this particular ensemble.

The top is Boden Limited Edition, the sunglasses are A.R. Trapp for J. Crew, the clutch/bag is Hobo International (TJ Maxx, you and your awesome deals), and the sandals are Target.

I am glad I was able to pull out this top and wear it again so soon.  I was a bit worried that it wouldn't fit (it is a US 6 and ran a bit small), but thankfully it did and was fairly comfortable, to boot.

I put the info on the pieces in the photo, but I want to make a couple of review/remarks about the top and shorts.

The top is the Girls Flutter Tee in Dizzy Anchors, size 14.  I can only ever wear crewcuts tops and this one just fit.  By the end of the day it fit better, but I wasn't sure if it was going to stretch much.  I liked the look, though, so I held onto the faith that it would stretch out a bit.  The cap/flutter sleeves are nice for balancing out my pear shape, but if you hate cap sleeves and/or have broad shoulders, I would stay away.

The shorts are Madewell's Bungalow Stripe Panorama Shorts, and I found them to be supremely comfortable.  Unfortunately the front of them wrinkled a bit by the end of the day, leading to the weird front is shorter than the back thing that linen does, but because these are 100% cotton, it did so in a less obnoxious way. 

I also took these in a size 10, and while the waist is a bit big (the belt was only decorative), the hips/thighs fit, which in the end is what matters.

Above is the polyvore of this outfit.  I also felt a bit hipster wearing this ensemble, but mainly because of the higher rise on the shorts and the more closed off neckline.

I was about to have Angus when this photo was taken (may have been two weeks before his birth).  It was yet another insanely hot day in Northern Virginia (weirdest winter ever), so I pulled out my ancient ringspun fish tee from J. Crew, a pair of Motherhood maternity shorts, and my Cole Haan loafers and called it an outfit.  :)

CW and Rex really wanted to pose in this photo, and CW even included her "Serta" sheep that she had been given the night before by a really nice SA at the local Sleepy's (the store we ultimately bought our king sized mattress--ah, best home purchase made in all our years of marriage!).

Okay, I guess that's it!  I will be commenting back on the sweet comments you all have been making here lately in the next day or two!  They are all being read, I promise!  :)

OOTD: Attempting Dressy.

Even if all I feel like wearing is pjs and sweatpants, I know that in the end if I put effort into my outfit, I will enjoy my day more, so as long as I am out and about, I at least give it a try. (Although I admit to a full on sweatpants/hoodie outfit when I visited urgent care during my nasal infection mess...I am not crazy!)

But...even if I choose not to wear pjs or sweats in public doesn't mean that I won't find the most crazy comfy and soft outfit possible to wear instead. That's my secret for the last three months of pregnancy. As much as I really REALLY want to wear my kick-butt maternity jeans and high heels, I can't bring myself to even attempt it. Oh, and so you know, with CW's pregnancy, I totally started this comfy dressing like really early, sometime around 24 weeks. (I was preggers with her in the summer, though...definitely the worst time to be pregnant...hands down.)

This outfit is insanely comfy.  And yes for that.  :)  It also made me feel slightly stylish, which I need now that a 30 pound basketball has firmly attached itself to my waistline.

Dress: Boden Jersey Maxi Dress. 
Shoes: Madewell Handbook Pump.  I only recommend these heels (or heels like this) in late pregnancy.  The cone shaped heel is substantial and there is a platform making the overall footbed more secure than a stiletto type.

PSA: Do not wear any shoe that hurts, especially if it hurts because of feet swelling, definitely not worth it.  Ballet flats or slight wedges are adorable, and if you have to buy one pair of black flats in a larger size, just for pregnancy, that's okay.  I had to for Rex, but after I gave birth, my feet returned to normal.  *I have not had that swelling since.  They think my swelling with Rex was preeclampsia, which also may have contributed to his early birth and emergency c-section.  So even though swelling is not usually a big deal, don't ignore it, either.*

I actually kind of like this image.  I didn't realize the self-timer was going to go off that quickly, and it caught me kind of walking, lol.  It does allow you all to see the shape of the Handbook pump.  :)

BTW, this dress is a double layer fabric and super soft.  It is like wearing a nightgown, just a fitted, fancier version of a nightgown you can wear out to lunch with the family (which we were about to do).

P.S. I read over at Boden's facebook page that there will be a big, exciting announcement tomorrow morning.  Most commenters are of the mindset there will be a "catch of the day" or "mid-season" sale, but there are a few who just think a new line will be rolled out.  I personally think it will be a "catch of the day" sort of deal, which in Boden land usually mean 30-35% off of certain items each day.  This is usually a big deal, and so when I figure it out (and get home from my doctor's appointment tomorrow), I will do a blog post on it.  :)  (Or do a blog post on the non-event, if the naysayers are right!)

OOTD: Making Sweet a Bit More Sassy.

Hi!  :)  I took a few days off, which I anticipate is going to be happening quite a bit more over the next month or so.

I do promise that (as long as I can) I will keep up all my coupon links and sale updates with regards to Boden (I know that many of you like having the easy access to them from here), but beyond that, I am going to give the blog what I can, when I can.

I know many of you have been through the drudgery of the last month of pregnancy before, so I know you "get it," and for those of you that haven't, I have no doubt you have seen others go through it, so I have a feeling you "get it," too.  And for that I am super-appreciative!

A couple weeks ago, I reviewed a Boden maternity frock in this Boden Weekly Review Roundup.  What I didn't show was how I actually styled it for my day out with my brother.  Although I wasn't having a super-awesome day (was at the height of my sinus infection), it was wonderful to get out with my little brother and my kids.  And in the best turn of events, my brother even paid.  ;)

(Everyone now, "awwww."  BTW, he's single.  Just sayin'.)

The dress is adorable on its own, but since the temps were only in the mid-50s *not complaining, btw*, I figured I should add a jacket and boots to keep myself warm.

I could have gone with a long topper, like one of my J. Crew double cloth coats, and worn riding boots, but in the end, I decided I wanted a bit more sass than sweet, so I pulled out an ancient black leather coat from Ann Taylor (best leather is always the one that's been in your closet for years) and the Madewell Hightower boots.

The J. Crew Frankie bag in this shade is also a nice contrast, adding some more sweet to the black leather.

Now--and I do realize this--there is very little that could make me look over the top sassy at this particular juncture in my life, but I am glad with the fact that I could take my normal, SAHM sweet/preppy/twee/pollyanna self to something a teeny bit more edgy.  ;)

Fun Times (Slightly Sweaty, Sadly) in a Fun Dress!

I was totally reminded about my Fun Dress from Boden Summer 2009 when I saw the very lovely Polly showing hers off (along with Fiona's Uptown Flats, lol).  Polly's is from the current Autumn 2011 line (as are the flats), but regardless of how I remembered that I owned a fun dress, too, doesn't matter.  The fact was, I chose to wear it upon being reminded.  :)

I will be including Polly's very awesome review in this week's BWRR (Wednesday for anyone who wants to send a review my way), but I knew that some of you are chomping at the bit to see more, so I wanted to make sure you saw these two reviews as soon as possible. 

I have also included links back to these two items at the very bottom of this post, so you can see other colorways, sizes, and measurements.

So onto my "fun" night with my "fun" dress.  Mr. Dina has a penchant for Washington Nationals baseball games, ESPECIALLY if it is "bobblehead night."  I don't care about that (except when they had a George Washington bobblehead, now that was worth it!), but it is always nice to have an excuse to drink beer, hang out with friends, and go into the city.

And it is always SO MUCH BETTER when it is 100 degrees at night, but won't allow my sarcastic self to come out and ruin this otherwise very positive post.  


So anyhoo, onto the outfit and other silliness...

I could already tell I was going to boil in this outfit, even though it is cotton and cotton lined.  Seriously, I could have worn a bikini and had a direct fan to my face and I would have still been hot.  At least the dress has a really pretty floral embroidered pattern at the bottom to avert the eyes away from the sweat pouring from my forehead.

This I took in a US 8 Regular (which at the time meant UK 12 Regular).  From what I can tell, Boden HAS STAYED consistent with sizing, as evidenced by my recent acquisition of my fifth fun skirt (yeah, yeah, I am sucker for the word fun).  I knew I wanted to get a size smaller than my prior fun skirts as they were all a bit loose now, and I was exactly right...the US 8 Long in that most recent fun skirt is what I needed.  So, go, Boden, with your consistent selves!

My little lady was all fretting over her cheerleader outfit saying it was "too small."  That is why she looks a bit despondent.  But from what I could tell she looked 100% adorable!

The glasses are the A.R. Trapp Troubadour sunglasses from J. Crew last year (but are still around, at a MUCH higher price point--ugh) and the Seychelles necklace from J. Crew Spring 2008.

I took the above photo with the "panorama" feature on my new camera (an Olympus shock and waterproof version).  Nationals park is really pretty lit up and right after the sun sets.

Oh, and check this out...who was at the park, too? Yep, that is none other that the fab blogger HeidiG.! I saw on FB that she was at the park, and we arranged to meet up for a quick hello during the first half of the seventh. :)

Floral Long Swing Skirt as Photographed by B & T...

You all ready for the arty-farty party?  LOL.

If you recall this post, I have *fun* with fashion.  And when I go over the top with my sartorial vision, I always call in B & T, photographers par excellence to capture the outfit in only the way they can.  B is the stylist and T is the photographer.  (And lucky me, they do it for free!!!)  After they do their job, I take the images and go crazy with the editing in Picnik, which is a Picasa on-line editing tool (and insanely awesome at making great photos look even more professional and special).

I am not going to bore you all with the details, instead I will simply give you a photo spread and leave the review of this beautiful outfit for a True Crew Love post (this weekend, most likely).

I am going to keep this photo as part of this post...I am now ready to move on from this gorgeous shot of my kids (taken almost 2!!! years ago).  I figure if I have a fashion blog (even if it is *just* SAHM fashion usually), I should have a header that speaks to what I do here, enjoying fashion as much as I possibly can.  :)  Plus, if I switch to a fashion-themed header, I won't feel so bad when I switch it up (which is what kept me from ever taking this one down, lol).

I will post this pic on the sidebar, with a link to the larger photo.  I love this image, and figure some of you do, as well.  So do like I will do and click on it whenever you need a pick-me-up.
