FIRST!!! New poll is up and running...
SECOND!!! I have commented back on the last two posts...so if you commented there...I have said hello...
THIRD!!! Ann asked what colors I would pair my IKAT shorts with from this post. I obviously think the melon top is the best choice, but I can envision wearing these shorts with a lovely tank in a light yellow...or a v-neck sweater in bright yellow with a white cami...or even a neutral top that is unexpected like charcoal or navy. I hope this helps!!!
Now, onto the coccodrillo pencil skirt. You all know how much I LOVE this skirt. Marietta and I were in the Collection store and I spied it in a size 10. Even though it was a bit big, I figured I could take it in if I needed to. So I tried it on, and although it is big, I am convinced I need to purchase it. And then...like a miracle...the sales lady says, "can I help you with anything?" So I tell her I would LOVE a size 8...and only mere moments later I was zipping up the most perfect pencil skirt I have ever owned (and I love my cotton double-serge skirts so this skirt had some definite competition). I think the pattern is just the neatest look...all modern yet very whimsical. (That is probably how I would describe myself...sounds kind of nerdy...but whatever!)
Coccodrillo Pencil Skirt!!! by dinagideon featuring J Crew
So I wear this outfit on my birthday dinner (yummy sushi). The polyvore for the set is above!
And then on July 2nd, when I have nothing to do except listen to Rex whine about something, I spy on jcrewaholics.com this post. Yes...my outfit from dinner is in the magazine Real Simple. Almost my entire outfit. I feel famous. Is that weird?
So in true excitement, I rush out (well, when Mr. Dina gets home) to get the Real Simple. And I spend about twenty minutes photographing this page so all you lovely ladies (and men) can look at this page all close-up (without having to spend 5 bucks or whatever).
So this is the outfit on the left. The other ladies look awesome, too...but the one sister in "my" skirt looks so pretty. I think the skirt was made for her, too. In fact, she is probably writing a poem to it as we speak and publishing the poem on her blog. Karma. ;)
See, PERFECTION. I am this woman's soul sister.
Yes. And remember, I did NOT have access to either jcrewaholics.com OR Real Simple before I wore this...
Here it is without the sweater. I wore the ever delightful Brigitte heels in Atlantic for the night instead...the shoes and the skirt were made for each other.
Here is the outfit on me with the navy v-neck sweater from Boden. I really LOVE pairing these Victoria camis with v-neck sweaters...
Look at Rex there in the back playing with his (my) balloon. That boy is obsessed. Of course, I am one to talk...
Have a great night ladies (and gentlemen). Remember, you can only buy this skirt in stores (huh?)...which is frustrating but very much worth it!

You look so pretty in this outfit! The entire outfit from head to toe is fabulous!!
I love this skirt on you--it looks wonderful! I also love the print...I bought the cocodrillo cardigan. :-)
Just wore my ikat shorts earlier this week. I wore a light champagne boyfriend tissue tee with them, and it was so chilly that I added the rumpled french terry cardi in navy...and I LOVED the navy with it. So I love that suggestion of yours (and the other ideas, too!).
You love f-a-b-u-l-o-u-s!!! I LOVE this skirt too!!! I have not worn my alligator skirt (that's what it's called on the receipt) yet but I hope to soon! :)
Thanks for sharing the photos and the outfit idea! I do not have the victoria or this exact sweater but I think I can find something similar in my closet to duplicate this look! ;)
You look sooo fab. I love the vneck sweater as a transition. I also love the earrings you used.
I love your outfit! I too think that this print is so cute and fun! I also love you in that victoria ruffled blouse (I have it in the melon color!)
LOVE, LOVE the skirt on you! your outfit is so cute :)
Love, love, love! What a fabulous outfit Dina. I like your shoes with this even better than what she wore with it in the magazine. :)
I just love it on you! Such a pretty outfit!
Gorgeous! I just recvd the coccodrillo shorts today and was thinking the pattern would be super cute on a skirt. and voila, it is!
What is the material like? The shorts are a thicker cotton with beautiful texture.
You look super cute!! I love it...
Simply gorgeous! YOU should have been in the magazine! :)
Do you mind telling the price? I love this print. You look very lovely. So nice to feel great on your birthday. The navy sweater really completes the outfit nicely. Many blessings on another year of life.
So fabbie - you look gorgeous! Love the outfit, love the shoes, love the vneck w/ the Victoria. I haven't even cracked open my Real Simple yet - too much puppy-minding at the river, not enough chill reading time. :)
jcbellemarie: The material of the skirt is thicker and textured as well! I have not seen the shorts but I am assuming there are the same!?!
Leader: The price is $138!
HTH! :)
Love! Thanks for posting.
Super, SUPER pretty on you!
I have this skirt, too, and I LOVE it! It looks great on you - what a stylish outfit. I love the shoes, especially, such a nice shade of blue :)
you look so beautiful. I saw the article in real simple and loved the look and the jewels. BTW I am catching up on your posts....i love the ruffle hem dress on you also. You and hubby make a cute couple.
Dina, you look great in this skirt, and I love how you paired it with the Victoria. I wore my skirt a few weeks ago for the first time and got so many compliments on it! Definitely one of my favorites from JC this summer. :-)
You love amazing in that outfit. Love-Love this on you!
that outfit is beautiful! to be honest i was so eager to see how it looked IRL that i scrolled right down to your photos :)
i got your comment, so glad you like the tote :)
you look too cute! love everything - skirt, heels, the victoria cami. this outfit was made for you :)
In all honesty, this print hurts my eyes. I know I am not the only one who doesn't like it. Seen it on other blogs, etc. but maybe I am the only one willing to say it. Glad you like it but I think it is awful. As my hubby says, Couldn't pay me to wear it!"
I think it looks better on you then it does non the model in Real Simple! Tres cute! And Happy Birthday!
Wow, you look truly gorgeous in these outfits. Well done! These quirky/elegant prints are what keep me interested in J. Crew from year to year.
It is a fantastic outfit! Good work.
Sigh...I totally thought I had commented on this earlier in the week. I know I read your post and commented in my head...but clearly it didn't make it online. AGH! I'm in such a daze :) But--I will just echo what most have said...this is a beautiful skirt, and you couldn't have put together a more beautiful outfit with the Victoria! I agree...you totally should have been the model in the mag.
I LOVE this skirt!! Was it TTS on you? I am considering ordering it from another store, as mine doesn't carry it : (
OK I couldn't resist- I ordered it off ebay (w/8$ live/bing cashback)-- If it doesn't fit, I'll offer it to you JCA's!
Hi Ladies (and Gentlemen):
I am so glad that so many of you liked this on me. I really liked it on me...so it is good to know I am not blind (although I may have blinded one of the commenters...she or he HATES the print--way too busy of a print!). I believe the skirt is a winner in that this print is isolated to the botton-half, so the print seems less jarring. I love the print, but will only consider the cardi once it gets a wee bit cheaper. I do want to purchase the crewcuts dress for CW but I DEFINITELY have to wait for a sale for that piece!
Also, those of you that said I should have been in Real Simple are too sweet...maybe one day (a harried mom of two can dream, right?)!
Now for the individual questions:
JCBelleMarie: I am so glad that MMM answered your question as I didn't see your comment until a day or two later...I love the fabric, btw...thick, textured cotton. It is very nice to feel. And it lays nicely, too!
Leader: Thank you again to MMM who answered your question. It is 138 dollars, but I believe it is worth it. For a collection piece that looks this good, 138 dollars seems like a steal. Or at least a good buy! :)
Anon: Sorry it hurts your eyes. Definitely skip over any of my posts in the future that mention "coccodrillo" anywhere in the title. :) I definitely will make sure to put the name "coccodrillo" in any future posts for you!
Sarah: So sweet! I know you prefer simpler, chic-er outfits, so to hear this from you is AWESOME!
AppGal: I am right there with you. My goodness...we are supposed to be relaxing, right? Kindergarten summer school is great and it pays well, but I am BEAT from the physical work of taking care of the education of 8 five-year olds. Phew. ;)
Kendra: I am now convinced that I have lost enough weight that my skirt size (and pants) are an 8 in J. Crew. With dresses I am either a 6, a Petite 8, or an 8. With shirts and tops and blazers I am a small or a 6.
This skirt was an 8...so I would say true-to-size! The skirt sits at the waist, so bear that in mind. Good luck, I hope you love it!
Kendra: Here is to hoping it fits!!! :) What size did you get? If you got one size up, you could TOTALLY take in the waist...
I don't want to post on your giveaway thread because it will mess up the random.org selection. I won't wear those beautiful socks since I go withou almost all year around, so I don't want to be entered. Just wanted to congratulate you on your 200th post! And you are so sweet to pay forward the Twilight book. Congrats on all the other goodies you've won!
Well, thank you Gigiofca!
And congrats to you on #200 follower...
If I could get away with no socks all year I would...even though it isn't that cold here...it gets cold enough to necessitate socks! :)
Dina - you'll love this - and you may have noticed it from my early blog pics - I almost never wear socks with shoes. Even in winter. If it's cold enough, I'll wear boots. And I wear socks with sneakers because otherwise, ewwww. But I love to wear socks if I'm just hanging out at home in sweats. Weird, huh?
