Happy 4th of July! Ooops, I Mean Happy 6th of August!

FIRST! You all were too cute in your responses to the pic of CW with her little, teeny-tiny cousin Lily Clare. She DOES look like a baby doll. I laughed and laughed when I read that. But there is truth to what you all said. I think Rex and CW were that size when I was 7 months pregnant...heehee. :)

**********************************************************

Now onto today's post:

As ever, I am so current, it is just darn near RIDICULOUS! ;) Nope...it took me over a month to post my outfits from Independence Day (now what kind of American are you, Dina?)...

Yeah, yeah, I know you all want to copy them, right now, today! Well, here you go!

This is the polyvore, in all of its red, white, and blue patriotic glory.

I absolutely love this skirt. I am not surprised in the least that this skirt was sold-out. I happily paid near the $65 it cost (minus 15% educator discount) and envision this skirt working all summer long (and possibly into the fall and spring). In addition to it being comfy, and the right amount of relaxed, and linen, it also fit beautifully in a size 6. Yes, me, Miss 8, maybe Miss 10. Now I know this is a 6 that is the victim of vanity sizing...I have NEVER been a 6 in J. Crew except in my most "exercise-a-holic" days, but still, FEELS darn good to me.

The Podna tee is also sold-out (this is the bad thing about posting a whole month late). I wore it with pride on Independence Day because of Mr. Dina being from that neck of the woods (raised in Mississippi, schooled in New Orleans). Go, 50 American states! (I also wore the tee because we were going to get Cajun food from our fave restaurant in Bethesda, Louisiana Kitchen...)

The shoes are my lovely Miss Trish of Capri sandals first worn in this post. Can you say "perfection" for the day?

So in summation, Stars (shoes) and stripes (skirt)...red (shoes), white (skirt and top), and blue (skirt and top). YEAH!

Here is my little American, Rex, in all his red, white, and blue glory, too. Sorry to say the Bumblebee shoes are yellow, but he is two, and I am not crazy enough to tell him he can't wear them because they don't "go" with his outfit...

Oh, but wait, I am not done! Let's not forget fireworks...what better than the "fireworks" tee from J. Crew? (Okay, I know it is some weird abstract floral, but all I see when I look at the tee is "bombs bursting in the air.")

Yes, the shorts are technically bistro orange, but they come close enough, and plus it's dark out when the fireworks go on...

You all have a great "dog day of August." Maybe I will actually start posting some pics of outfits on the day I actually wear them...we'll see. ;)

I am a big fan of the bistro orange shorts. I think I wore mine to a 4th of July themed cookout, I can't remember.

They had a similar color in matchstick cords at the factory outlet-- might have been 'mars' or 'dark persimmon,' but it's all bistro orange to me! :)

I hope you have been having lots o' fun with the kiddos and enjoying time away from blogland. :) I very well may refuse to leave my loft until Labor Day. I do not deal well with July/August weather.

Hey, hey, hey! Oh, Dina, we've missed you! But I'm so glad that you've had the time off to enjoy summer with the kiddies and Mr. Dina. :)

Both outfits look oh-so-patriotically-appropriate! And that skirt with the Podna shirt is just darling!

I love both outfits!

I completely agree that the tee looks like fireworks, that's exactly what I thought when I first saw it. I bought it in the light gray and still haven't gotten around to wearing it, and you look just beautiful in it. Plus I'm extra jealous of the monterey striped skirt! I love this and wish I'd bought one myself.

Hope you had a good vacation and glad to see you back on here! I've missed you!

Welcome back Dina! These were very cute outfits. I have the fireworks tee as well but I think I've only worn it once.

Me loveth the brass band tee on you. You're looking good. I'm not so sure about vanity sizing on that skirt. Maybe you're a Miss 6, Miss 8 now. Fo' reels.

I almost bought the skirt in tan color (not sure of the JC name). It felt really comfortable on. I love the striped version too. BTW, you are so pretty with your hair up!

Love your outfits. I bought the fireworks tee but wasnt impressed with how thin the fabric was...It looks great on you though.

You looked super cute in the Podna tee and skirt!

I love that skirt too! I'm glad I snatched one up before they sold out!

Love the fireworks outfit and love the blue outfit - skirt is so fab! So glad I tried yours on and now realize that the problem with that skirt is that it is WAY too big in regular sizes. No wonder I felt like it was too full and was going to fly up in the air at any moment.

Tastymoog: You totally LOOK like you love the fall and winter...esp. your profile pic. There is something magical about that late fall time period when the air is so clear and bright it is hard to imagine it ever being oppressive, like in August! (BTW, I would love to read your blog, but I know you need an invite...my e-mail is dinagideon AT aim DOT com if you feel comfortable inviting me to take a look.)

Drewablank: Thank you...I love being back. :) I totally stole the look from j. crew...the podna and striped skirt were together on their website. AH, well, at least we know they think it goes.

Summerilla: That top is a lot of fun...I think it will come out even in the winter (can you see it under some of those amazing fall blazers like I can?)...I am glad to be back, too, it is hard trying to stay on top of this blog from the road...

Patina: Ah, thank you! I love you in the Podna tee, too! Now, all I have to do is get a Headache be Gone tee, and we would be virtual twins...smile.

A Bigger Closet: I bet you are running into the problem I do...you have more tees and tops than days in the year. :) I have decided to start a pact with me...I will wear every top in my closet...even if all I am doing is loafing around with the kids at the house all day. Eventually, all of them will be worn and I can start the process again!

Gigiofca: You are too nice! I think I am suffering from the whole, "I can't be that close to my goal weight" syndrome. I feel that if I just continue to try and lose a little more I will be more vigilant and won't get too lax with myself and gain all the weight back. But, then again, I am the lady who wrote a whole post of my "weighty worries" when I started this blog, so I am self-aware enough to know that maybe I just need to chill on the whole weight thing. ;)

Sweet Tea: Thank you, hon...I totally appreciate it!

FFM: Did you get the skirt or the top? I could see you in both, very easily! :)

Tweetle Beetle: Thank you for the compliment on my hair. I try to wear it up often, but I suffer from headaches and sometimes the ponytail exacerbates this problem. So when I can wear it, I do. :) And is this skirt not too die for? LOVE IT! I only bought the striped version, but that was because I already have a ton of skirts in all the other colors...but had they made a dark brown or another patterned version, I would have been all over them, too!

MissMasala: I wear a lot of flesh or light colored camis and I totally find that helps with the see-through effect of many of the J. Crew tees...but that can be a pain if you don't like camis or find them too hot! And I will confess to buying a medium, even though I am a small to counteract some of the translusency of this top. :)

Kathy: Thank you so much...I loved wearing it...so comfy and yet very presentable, too.

Betsy: I was not super-suprised to see it had sold out, but why didn't the solids also sell out? It is a really great skirt...as you already know... ;)

HeidiG.: Yes...you are falling into my realm of not seeing how small you are...HeidiG., step away from the size ten bottoms, now. Get thee over to the 6 or 8. After all, you totally rocked my size 6 black riding legging pants (are they the minnie or the pixie?)...

HeidiG said...

Honey, you can be there to steer me to the small sizes at Tysons in 2 weeks. (excited!) Those size 6 pants of yours were the pixi pants - but I am dying to try on the Minnie pants IRL!!
