Review of the Chain Bow-Tie Necklace!!

You will have to excuse my makeup and facial expression. I actually wore this necklace as an acccesory to my black dress for my Uncle's funeral. Because I knew I would be doing a review on this necklace, I had my brother grab a shot. Not my finest look, but whatever. A funeral is not meant to be a fashion show.

This necklace is still available on the J. Crew website. Today it is $44.99 and is an extra 20% off. That makes this necklace a pretty good deal. I actually like the necklace before it went on sale, but by the time I got around to buying it, it was already on sale (although for a bit more than you can get it today).

The necklace is very pretty and classic. I think this is one of the few pieces J. Crew has that doesn't scream "whimsy." I love whimsy, but for occasions like a black-tie event, a funeral, an opera, you need something more time-tested. This necklace fits the bill beautifully.

It has a nice weight to it...not too heavy...not too light. It ties in the back with the ribbon. The ribbon is a solid piece of fabric, with good care it should last a long time. It holds together with a very pretty set of inlaid "crystals" (whatever J. Crew calls the diamond-looking pieces they use) where the ribbon and chain meet.

I purchased it in a natural ribbon as black does nothing for me (you have proof of that with this picture). Both the black and natural ribbon necklaces are available for purchase here.

Ashley also did a review of the necklace here on her blog, Love It!

You can also tie the ribbon on the side and make the ribbon center-stage if you want to make the necklace more "fun" than "formal." :)

I hope this helped someone...especially if they were on the fence!

Did you happen to get your black dress recently? A family member of mine is very ill, and sadly it looks like I will be attending his funeral soon, and I'm having the hardest time finding a black dress with short sleeves. They are all kind of "sexy" or not suitable for church. I've gained about 20 lbs and my old "funeral dress" no longer fits. (Sorry for the morbid topic.)

You look very pretty,as always. I love the necklace. It really stands out against the black. It will be great with navy for the summer!

Hi all:

Thank you, Gigi, Ashley, and Patina. I do so love this necklace...you should see a lot more of it!

Anon:

SO sorry about your relative... I actually bought this last fall from Target...it is from the Isaac Mizrahi collection. It is not the most flattering dress on the planet, but it totally fits the bill for somber activities.

Maybe you can go to Ebay and see if they have a reasonable facsimile or even that same one?

Hope this helps!

Monagram girl: Thank you!!! I will have to try this necklace out with a gorgeous short navy dress I own from J. Crew (or maybe the long one...hmmm). :)

Again, so sorry for the sad occasion that you needed to wear the black dress for Dina. :(

The necklace is lovely on you. Thanks for the review. I just ordered it in the same color this morning with the 20% pricing. I really like that is has the crystal details where the ties attach to the chain. Most of their other necklaces with ties don't and I wish they did.

Thanks Dina, I didn't think of checking Target. Maybe they will have a basic black dress. It makes me wish there was a "Funeral Dress Store" where you could go and get an appropriate dress on short notice.

You actually look lovely in this photo, even despite the sad circumstances. It's a great necklace.

Dina, no disrespect but when I click on the enlarged photo it is obvious you need to make an appointment with your dental hygienist ASAP. In the meantime, pick up a toothbrush and some floss. It's important for your health, not just your appearance.

Love the necklace - looks great. And great info on it - thank you!!! I look forward to seeing more of it - and I want to go check out Ashley's review, too.

Anon@1:09/5:30 - I find that Ann Taylor Loft is another good option - orig prices not as low, but they always seem to have a stash of black dresses on sale. (and they are having the 30% F&F right now, let me know if you need the coupon) Just a thought...

A Bigger Closet: This necklace will look divine on you. I cannot wait to see it on you in real life. Glad my review helped!

Anon: Totally agree about the Funeral store concept. I hate that if you need something appropriate quickly, it can be hard to find. They have wedding dress stores, stores that sell Baptism and First Communion outfits, why not a store for the other passage of life (as morbid as that seems). Good luck. I know you will find something.

Oh, and so you know, you and your family are in my prayers.

KatyO.: Thank you. I think I am my harshest critic (well, maybe not...I think that goes to Anon with the teeth comment--chuckle). :)

Anon @ 9:54: Yup. Nope. Can't respond. Just can't do it. Sorry.

HeidiG: I think Ashley and I are twins...we have the same of everything. Slastena and a Bigger Closet are right up there with me...more like sisters, though...not as many items in common. :)

FFM: Thank you so much! Do you own much J. Crew jewelry?

luvallthingsjcrew: I love that you just said "wicked." I bet KatyO. and Ashley say that, too. Cute!!! Well, maybe when you lift the ban on shopping you can revisit the necklace (it may still be around).

Have a nice day everyone!
