OOTDs: 13 on the 13th and a Stunned Sewer.

Before I start the ootds post, I wanted to let you know there is a reason I am a "stunned sewer."  Turns out that I *won* the Fabric Mart Fashion Challenge.  Woah!  I honestly thought I was going to come in third, *maybe* second if I was really lucky, but nope, first!  I wrote this all over the place this morning, but I was really glad that I was sitting when I received the news since I had to compose myself, so weird, right?  :-)  I guess I was a tiny bit excited!

Nakisha came in second with her gorgeous interpretation of minimalism architecture, and Sue's amazing, yellow trench coat inspired by Pop Art came in third.  It was a true honor to be in the last challenge with them.

I have a lot of thoughts about the competition, what I learned, what I experienced, and how the whole thing went, but I will save that for another time (I do want to dissect it, though, since the progress was pretty significant overall--more so than I expected it to be).  I do really want to say thank you to Fabric Mart for hosting the competition, the judges for all their thoughts and words about the garments I sewed up, and to my fellow sewing friends in the contest with me, it was wonderful to be part of such a cool thing with such gracious, generous, and gifted sewers.  And of course, I *know* so many of you voted for me, or left incredibly kind comments here or at my FB page, so thank you for that.  I had many moments where comments were what I needed to keep my head up high, since there were points in the challenge where I wondered if I should keep on keeping on...

Okay, onto the outfits...both featuring dresses I sewed up in the competition (there's the connection, lol).

Day: Monday, October 13, 2014.

Where:  To celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary, Mr. Dina took me to America Eats, which has moved from its downtown DC location (featured at this post and here at this post) to the Ritz Carlton Tysons (ooh, fancy!).

Ease of Wear: (3.5 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.)  I made this dress for me (read more on that here), but it is still a fancy dress worn with heels.  It won't be the most comfortable dress ever, but considering that normally dresses feel too tight in my hips, it was a nice change of pace to feel not restricted there, for once.  :-)

Cool Factor: (4.5 of 5 stars--5 being the coolest.)  I love it.  I think I looked really nice, and I always, ALWAYS want my hair to look that good *why can't it always behave--WHIIIIINE!*.

Anecdote from the day:  Driving to Tysons it was SUPER FOGGY out.  We have a few tall buildings in our neighborhood and there are really tall buildings (well, by DC standards anyhow) in Tysons, and the tops of the buildings were completely hidden behind the wall of fog.  I love fog, so I was really into it, but Mr. Dina was freaked out.

Yeah, we've been married for 13 years and it was awesome that it was on the 13th.  Wish it had been a Friday, too, that would have been even better.

Day: Saturday, October 18, 2014.

Where:  International Fair at the school.

Ease of Wear: (5 of 5 stars--5 being the most easy to wear.)  Yeah, this dress is so comfortable.  I am really glad I spent all those hours patterning out the original and sewing up a gazillion gathers (wrote the process up here).  Worth all the effort.  Such a breezy, lovely dress.

Cool Factor: (4 of 5 stars--5 being the coolest.)  Very pretty and presentable outfit, and perfection for the weather we had here today (umm, gorgeous, with a slight breeze).

Anecdote from the day:  We have been a house of sick lately.  I was sick with the flu for a week and then both CW and I came down with laryngitis.  Unfortunately Mr. Dina and Angus now have it, too, and they are struggling.  Only Rex seems immune.  I bet he scares the germs away.  :-)  We had a good time at the International Fair, though.  One of my favorite families from the school are Ethiopian and they remembered how much Rex likes the yellow pea dish, so they made that special so Rex would be able to enjoy his favorite.  Isn't that so sweet?  What a nice and generous gesture.

Okay, that's all for now.  Still pinching myself over the win, cannot wait to give another sewing project a go, and now that I have a bit more time, I think I will be tackling a coat or jacket, which I have always wanted to sew up.

Have a great night!

What I Have Been Doing Instead of What I Should Be Doing...

Okay, I know I have e-mails to send and comments to respond to and posts to publish, but when there is $2000 at stake ($1000 for the blogger who sponsors this contest and $1000 for the creator of the winning blogger's favorite set), then I have to say all things can take a back seat.

Interested in helping Fabulous Florida Mommy to BE THAT BLOGGER that wins the $1000? Check out her post on this contest for more information.

Above are the FIVE sets I have created for this contest. I actually have had a LOT of fun making these sets, and I love the items that FFM chose for this contest. It is nice to use REALLY high-end items for the sets...they look so luxurious and colorful and sophisticated.

You all have a great day, and I believe I can tear myself away from Polyvore to do another post today. LOL. :)

Giveaway Winners and My Very First Arbonne Afternoon!

1. I apologize for not announcing the giveaway winners yesterday, as promised. I once again suffered from a massive migraine attack, yet this time I had to ask Mr. Dina to stay home. I was bedridden by this attack. I have contacted and have had my first appointment with a neurologist, and she has been great so far. I anticipate that by the end of the summer I will be closer to an answer of why I get so many attacks and why they are so very painful. Wish me the best, as I have to undergo an MRI as part of this screening, and I have heard those can be really difficult (I am not claustrophobic but people have said this experience could turn me!).

2. I picked two winners for the giveaways, out of 30 comments. I had made a comment to one of the comments, so that comment was thrown out and was not counted when I found the winners.

3. For the Independence day giveaway, I got #19, which is AppGal! AppGal, you are the winner of the Johnnie B. Union Jack bag and the Arbonne FC5 Conditioning Body Moisture.

4. For the Birthday giveaway, I got #19, which is HeidiG.! Heidi, you are the winner of the packet of Arbonne's Seasource Detox Spa Sea Soak and the Seasource Detox Spa Sea Mud and Body Mask.

Yay for you both. I have e-mails for both of you, so please do be expecting a congratulatory e-mail from me very soon.

And thank you to all who entered. I loved seeing what you all had to say about America (or your own country) and also what you do to pamper yourself throughout the year.

And on that note, let me tell you about one of my own very special pampering rituals (besides buying lots and lots of J. Crew--lol).

I am a big OLE bath junkie. Some people have really bad habits that they are junkies for, but not me...I pick probably the cleanest things to get addicted to...BATHS!

I have taken one every single day since I was born. I don't believe there has ever been a time where I would take a shower if I could take a bath instead. (Except for those months that I lived in a dorm, yucky, yucky communal showers--blegh!)

I have always used potions and elixirs in my baths, salts, soaks, bubbles, oils, you name it, I have tried it. :) Body Shop loved me back in the day.

It seems that I always have preferred the treatments that would leave my skin soft and clean. A lot of the potions I would use had additives that would either strip my skin or would leave me feeling a bit greasy. Over the years, I have found things and products that I love, but then they would be gone in a heartbeat (I am looking at you, Bath and Body Works), so I stopped frequenting stores and places that would get me hooked and then let me down (looking at you again, Bath and Body Works).

Lucky for me, Holly (who I have known for years) started an Arbonne business and showed me all the fab pampering products that Arbonne has, especially for those of us addicted to baths. Their Seasource Detox Spa line is awesome, with all kinds of wonderful treatments for before the bath, during the bath, and after the bath. (And unlike some other companies, Arbonne doesn't stop producing popular products when you start to depend on them!)

I was officially addicted when I tried the seasoak for the very first time...I stepped into the bath, the gentle fragrance welcomed me and through its special blend of minerals, helped my muscles relax (I tend to overuse my muscles as I exercise and lift a lot--40 pound toddlers, anyone?).

Then I had the opportunity to try the Seasource Sea Mud Face and Body Mask...I especially love this for the summertime, as my skin gets pretty oily. It feels clarifying, but it is in no way drying. I feel like I am at the spa, and I am being wrapped up by a therapist in one of their body wraps when I use this...the smell and consistency is very similar to what they use at the high-end spas. (I wouldn't be surprised if some of the spas use this line of products!)

After the bath, a good moisturizer is key. You have taken care of cleansing and relaxing, now keep the feeling up by moisturizing your skin with FC5 Conditioning Body Moisture (I like this for the summer as I have pretty oily skin--but if you are young or have oily skin all year round, this is great at all times). If you need a heavier moisturizer, I highly recommend the Seasource Detox Spa Re-mineralizing Lotion 24H.

If you click on the picture in this post (above), you will see my recipe for the perfect summer bath...I hope that some of you are able to try this! I am all for pampering, even if it means doing some of it at home!

I hope you have enjoyed my very first Arbonne Afternoon. In the weeks to come I will highlight other Arbonne products that I have personally used and love! :) After all, what good is seeing the products without actually having a testimonial to go along with them? On that note, if you have used the above products and have some of your own experiences to share, please do!!!

(If you need more info on these products, or would like to know more about how to get these products, please do e-mail me at dinagideon AT aim DOT com or see this post!)

Have a great day, all.

P.S. I am getting my coupons and samples ready for sending out tomorrow, so remember if you would like to be on my Arbonne mailing list, do e-mail me at dinagideon AT aim DOT com. If you have already e-mailed me, I have your info...do expect to hear more from me! Thank you!!!

Decorative Pillow Giveaway Winner Is...

True Random Number Generator:
Min: 1
Max: 37
Result: 7
Powered by RANDOM.ORG

Well, look at that! My favorite number 73 was reversed by the number of entrants into the number 37...and then #7 wins it. Guess 3 and 7 are good for me. Anyhow, Ms. Pamela of the awesome blog Ginger Girl wins the pillow! :) YAY! Pamela, I will e-mail you shortly!

P.S. I loved LOVED reading your comments. I wish I had a beautiful Liberty of London pillow for each one of you. All of you are fab and I feel blessed that you are part of my little corner of the blog-o-sphere.

P.P.S. On that note, I have to take a couple of days off from this blog. I need to watch my STATCOUNTER VERY closely. There is some funny business happening here at My Superfluities and I need it to stop. ;) 'Nuff said.

Liberty of London for Target Decorative Pillow Giveaway!!!

Well, look at that! Sometime over the weekend, I gained my 173rd follower, a certain Whitney and the Preppy Puppy...and I love the #73, so I felt that the time was right to have a giveaway. (Yes, I am sort of weirdly superstitious like that...)

I sort of knew that I was on the brink of getting #173, so I looked all over the Target nearest me for some sort of Liberty of London for Target item that I could give away that also was not dependent on size...

And then I saw it...the pillow. It is colorful, flowery, soft, and sweet...sort of like how I want my blog to be. :)

So, if you want to be entered into this giveaway, you need to do four things...(please):

1. You don't *have* to be a follower, but it sure would be nice to be a little bit closer to 200. ;) So if you have not yet become a follower, but know that it is something you *may* want to do...I won't say "no." (I would most likely go whoo-hoo, which is what I do every time one of you awesome blog friends decides to make our friendship "official.") (I don't cry when I lose a follower, I just sort am like, "huh?")

2. Leave your e-mail...this way I can easily contact you and you don't have to be sitting next to your blog reader waiting with bated breath thinking, "Am I the winner?"

3. PROMISE ME (hand on heart, you all) that you will NOT re-sell this pillow. It is currently sold-out on-line, and I know it could make some money, but come on, that's just wrong and totally not in the spirit of this giveaway! In fact, to show me that you won't re-sell it...mention where you think you would put this pillow (even if it is only for your dog's bed or your car...fine, fine, don't care...just no re-selling).

4. If you are a fan of the Liberty of London for Target line, could you put in your comment which item you LOVED the most? That would be great! If you didn't love the line, then I am not sure why you would want a pillow, but just go ahead and tell me something else from Target that you heart!

Sample Comment:

I am a follower (and have been since day 1), my e-mail is dinagideon AT aim DOT com, I could NEVER re-sell this pillow because my kitty-cat needs it for his cat play place, and my fave item from the Liberty of London for Target line is the turquoise Isis halter top.

You have till Sunday, March 21st, at midnight Eastern Time. Monday, March 22nd will be when I announce the winner! :) Enjoy! (AND THANK YOU FOR keeping on keeping on with me!)

Polyvore's Love Letters...

Untitled
Untitled by dinagideon featuring J Crew

You all--get this--I was mentioned in Polyvore's blog in their February 19th Polyvore Love Letters-Blog Roundup. I thought, maybe, just maybe, something was up because I kept having this polyvore set of mine faved by all these random (yet incredibly sweet) people. Well, it keeps happening, so today, after the 16th fave (one of my all-time highest number of faves for a set), I clicked over to the Polyvore blog and saw that my set had been written up! (I knew to look at the blog because HeidiG. had one of her polyvore sets on the blog...it has always been my little dream to have one of my sets appear over there!)

Because I have been so insanely busy with Rex's birthday party, having Mr. Dina's parents in town, and the ever-fab DC JCA group get-together on Saturday night, this bit of "awesome" totally bypassed me!

It is a total surprise and makes me so happy! Whee! :)

More today, promise...I have an upcoming post in which I am wearing the tiered silk cami in papaya under the tie-front cashmere cardigan with the Crystal Devote necklace (yes, the one being discussed right now over at JCA).

Talk soon.

Tuesday is for Tiffany Rose...and My Winnie Coat!!!

Tuesday is Tiffany Rose's Day, so I pulled out my Winnie coat and worked it into an outfit. Turns out she wanted me to wear it with the Tutu top I wore last night, but c'est la vie. I actually am glad I wore it today...

Here is the polyvore of the outfit I created. I knew it would be winter warm (here in VA we routinely get temps in the 50s and 60s in the winter...just not lately...but I had heard it would be winter warm today), so I suspected that if I wore anything heavier than a cami I would swelter for sure (I run hot). I had not worn this gorgeous Serengeti top (which I purchased at Mint Condition for 16 dollars--you read that right) yet, and knew I wanted to, plus I had just gotten the Boden vintage inspired necklace back from the jeweler (it had a broken tie bit) so the outfit came together organically, you know, I want to wear a, b, and c, and look, a, b, and c equals an outfit!!!

Pants are different in the polyvore. I am actually wearing J. Crew chinos (surplus) from 2005...they have the button-fly.

Outfit with the opened Winnie...

Sizes:
Coat: Size 4.
Top: Size 6.
Pants: Size 10.
Boots: Size 9.

I received multiple compliments today on this outfit, which always feels nice, but I never expect. In fact, the first one came from the lady at the post office who was all, "I LOVE YOUR COAT!" I thought she was talking about CW, so I was like, "I know, aren't the dots precious???" She just laughed and said, yes, she loves the baby's outfit, but really likes Mommy's coat, too. :)

Then the necklace and the tank received a few "ooh, I really like that" at the coffee shop! J. Crew and Boden, these are some fine pieces that a lot of people like!!! Good on you...

Without the Winnie. I so am planning on rocking this look with a pair of sandals this summer.

Winnie all done up.

Have a great afternoon...later on, Ball Gown pics (but none of the ball, didn't bring my camera).

Thank You, Janiece...How I Wore the Anthropologie Tutu Top Last Night...

As I promised in this post, I would pick 5 winners (or 2nd through 6th place) to choose my "wardrobe" this week. My second place winner (responsible for Monday's choice) was Janiece, and she said she wanted me to wear the Anthropologie Tutu Top I wore last on New Year's Eve.

Here is how I styled it this time...note, I used the Anthropologie catalog image to help inspire me.
I liked how it turned out...I think I need to continue to play with this top because it is a lot of fun and a great versatile "non-boring" basic.

On me. Let me tell you...this was the best shot by far. I couldn't seem to make the right pose last night. Any other bloggers find that happens sometimes?

Sizes:
Cardigan: Size Medium.
Top: Size Small.
Jeans: Size 31R.
Boots: Size 9.5. These were KILLING my feet by the end of the night...but I did go back and forth something like 4 times at the mall, probably equals a mile, I am sure! No wonder!!!

BTW, I won a giveaway myself two weeks ago, over at Chanel Fashionista's blog for her blog-o-versary. :) These Mark lip glosses and eye shadows are great, and since I am a big lip gloss fan (only make-up I were every. single. day.) this was the PERFECT giveaway for me to win. So thank you, Chanel Fashionista!!! I love them.

I will post pics of today's outfit (Winnie coat) when I get home, and soon thereafter, create the post on the ball gown (it has a lot of pics, so it will take me some time to do). Talk soon!

So, Guess What I Get to Wear This Week...Plus, We Have a Winner...

A Week's Worth of Items I MUST Wear...
A Week's Worth of Items I MUST Wear... by dinagideon featuring J Crew

If you see your item, it means that you were most likely a "winner," even if that only means that I will wear the clothing item you chose when I had the giveaway post a few days ago. (Although many people chose the blushed tweed skirt...so that will remain a mystery on who chose it until you read the results.)

But first, who gets to wear the warm, J. Crew Collection cashmere hat??? That would be--CAROL!!! #14 was picked randomly of the 31 entries, and that was you!!! I will e-mail you soon to get your address. Congratulations!!!

Onto the 2nd place through 6th place "winners."

2nd--#5, Janiece...her item of choice, the Anthropologie Tutu top which I am going to wear tonight...already have the polyvore created.
3rd--#31, Tiffany Rose (I included you, although not EST, PST is fine)...her item of choice, J. Crew's Winnie Coat which I will wear tomorrow...it will be warm tomorrow, but eh, it's fine, I'll just wear it with a cami. :)
4th--#2, Cate...her item of choice, the Campo de Fiore dress which I will wear Wednesday...this should be interesting...I don't know if I am even leaving the house that day, but this should be fun being all dressed up, maybe I can do a mid-century mom chore that day by bending the rules to include the 70s in the mid-century time period, I will channel Carol Brady that day.
5th--#12, Debye...her items of choice, the Fresco tunic and the Frances cami...I will wear the tunic on Thursday and the Frances in rose on Friday because it pairs perfectly with...
6th--#15, Chanel Fashionista...her item of choice, the blushed tweed pencil skirt...will be worn on Friday, have evening plans, would be fun to get dressed up for my movie night with the girls.

That is all. Thank you all for humoring me!!! This will be a lot of fun, I am sure! :)

So if you are #2 or #7...

Winner of My Giveaway!
Winner of My Giveaway! by dinagideon on Polyvore.com

Then you have won my socks giveaway! Yay!!! I always think when you have a higher number of people enter for a giveaway, then one of the higher numbered entrants will win, like #16 or #23 or something (24 people entered the giveaway, by the way).

But of course...I know intellectually this is not true...every entrant has the same chance of getting the prize as the next person, especially when you use a machine like random.org to help you pick.

So, #2 (also known as AppGal) and #7 (also known as Summerilla), please e-mail me. (You both have my e-mail, right?)

I plan on having another giveaway real soon...this was fun...
