Let's Go to the Movies...with the Beautiful Olive Green Victoria (Cami, that Is)...

So I went out two evenings in a row without my kids. I must be growing up. :) Just kidding, it worked out that way. I actually miss them like CRAZY when I am not near them...but I know that it is a good idea for me to get out and live a little every once in awhile.

So this is what I wore to go out to dinner and the movies...the superb Victoria cami in olive green (J. Crew--Holiday 2008), the soft merino v-neck sweater (J. Crew--Holiday 2007), jeans (Levis from 2007?), purple/plum low wedge shoes (Target--Xhiliration--Fall 2008), Bauble necklace (I think--J. Crew--Holiday 2008), and some earrings (History Store--2001).

I was actually a little freaked out by the collar at first. I thought, "can I actually pull this off?" Well, it turns out I can. I got a lot of compliments, which I never expect to get, and when I do, I am so tickled. :) I love this top so much that I am eyeing the melon and waiting for it to go on sale.

Here is the top close-up. If you have some interest in this top, consider getting it...it really does make a statement. I pulled my hair back (thanks, KatyO. for wearing your hair that way when you wore this top) and I truly believe that one hair change made this whole look possible. With my hair down, it was all just TOO much!

Have a great day, everyone!

God, you look fabulous. :)

I'm sooooo kicking myself that I didn't get the Victoria in this color too. {hoping the newer colors don't go on sale before shopping ban ends!!!}

Love it! I have not worn my Olive Victoria yet... would never have thought to put it under a v neck sweater but I LOVE the look! Thanks for the ideas :)

Beautiful. Having your hair back shows your elegant cheekbones! Anon 3:23 from the 'other' post ;-)

I'll have to agree with the other ladies - the color and the cami look absolutely gorgeous on you! I love the way you put the like-colors together like that (I do have to learn how to do that :p)!

And I agree - with the Victoria, I think it's best to wear your hair up to emphasize the collar. :)

Love the tonal olive greens. You look amazing in these colors!! The collar on the Victora is so fab with your hair up. And I love the purple shoes with it, too!!

So excited to see the IRL pics ever since I saw the set on Polyvore...I am not disappointed!! :)

This is cute! I like the tone-on-tone tops and the scattered boule necklace with it. I also like the Fresco tunic on you.

Can't wait to see you Saturday!

Dina-you did it!This is absolutely my favorite outfit on you! The color combo is fabulous with your complexion, stunner from head to toes!

Great pairing with the v-neck! I've only done it with cardis and jackets but I will def. try this now. I think if you get the melon, that color will look equally lovely on you as the olive does. I already own several of these Victorias but am still looking to get the in-store only pewter. Fingers/toes crossed :) And I'd love it if they did this in a beautiful mustard, amber or some rich jewel-tone for fall.

Okay, Ladies (and Gents): It's official...this is my most popular outfit yet. Makes me want to wear this every day. :) I am going to split my comments into 5 sections to make it more readable.

THANIK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS! Yesterday was really really rough for me...that class and Rex's dismissal is really bothering me and although I feel a lot better about the situation today, your sweet thoughts about this outfit made me feel so much better. :)

By the way, I bought the ivory this morning. I imagine that top with a navy v-neck sweater will look so polished and refined. ;)

Betsy: Thank you!!! How is Charlotte? Do you miss NOVA?

Beth: Thank you so much...I think the hair made the outfit...down it would have looked silly!

KatyO.: Thank you so much...you were my inspiration, after all! I love this blouse a lot...I want it in all the colors, now.

Sparrowsandsparkles: Ooh, I want to see how you style it...I would love to figure out more ways to wear it!

Mslay: Hey, hon, I am so glad you are back (I know you have had computer issues). :) Yep, this color is a win...I wish J. Crew would make more in this shade...I think it is flattering to a lot of skin tones.

dinagideon said...

AppGal: I definitely will get more in this shade. I have a cami from the winter in this shade, too (I think it is the Bria). I will be wearing that soon, for sure.

I went to see I love you, Man. Very cute. My hubby and I LOVE Rush, so seeing them and their music highlighted (not the point of the film but awesome nonetheless) was great! :)

Bekah: Yes, I would think so too. Funny enough, they are a year apart and I am not sure if J. Crew even intended for the Victoria to be hidden under a sweater. Every time I have seen it styled by them, they put it out there front and center...I can't do that...the ruffles look like they are going to eat me! So I wanted to use the collar to its full glory and hide all the busy-ness of the lower neckline. Thanks for your comment...so nice! :)

Soon to be PhD: You should check J. Crew out...I think they have a myriad of colors in petite left (I may consider petite--I can actually wear them if I size it right) and the ivory in regular sizes. They are 49 dollars...pretty good price for a statement piece and silk...

Anon 3:23 (Smile): Thank you so much. I think I need to wear my hair back more often...

Drewablank: Do you own a Victoria? I thought I had seen you in one...I know that detailed collars look fab on you!!! They really highlight your beautiful facial features!!!

Emily: Merci! (Your pic always makes me think of some chic French lady...)

HeidiG: I had wanted to get this up earlier and I knew that you wanted to see it...I couldn't wait...but then I had to...I am definitely learning patience lately. :) I am glad you loved it!

Christina: Thank you so much!!!

Tastymoog: Olive is such a beautiful, saturated yellow-green...love it!!! Your blog is gone, hon, I am sad, I loved seeing your posts. I hope you bring it back. As a commonwealth girl myself (Virginia, obviously), I loved your blog's name. We don't necessarily agree all the time, but I am always in the minority of opinion with most of my friends. I just want you to know that I am a person who doesn't always agree with you but still loves to see your opinion! :)

luvallthingsjcrew: Thank you!!! Now I am worried that all my future outfits will pale in comparison. :) Smile...

Dina,

Thank you for your kind words. I miss VA, my second favorite commonwealth. ;) A VA tour book addressed to someone else was accidentally mailed to my place, and I saw Gearhart's chocolates at Whole Foods a few weeks ago. I think it's a sign I should move back. :)

My blog is on lock down right now, to keep trolls from posting mean stuff. It will be back though, b/c I want to keep writing critical essays on jcrew, sustainability, poverty, and, ummm, cupcake recipes. :)

I was on the fence about this blouse (saw it in store once and seemed to run large), but seeing it on you convinced me to purchase. I had one in my shopping cart this morning, but now it is sold out. *sadface*

I enjoy looking at your polyvore sets and pictures here because they are always so colorful and fun. Thank you for sharing them with us! :)

Starla729: I have had so many questionable styling moments (I grew up in the 80s and early 90s) that hearing this is like a sweet song. Thank you!

Em: You will look so good!!! :)

Patina: Thank you...you have a victoria, right? Have you tried it with a v-neck yet? I bet you would look FABULOUS!

Tamstyles: Thank you on so many levels...I just got the ivory today...cannot wait to wear that one, either!!!

Fiyah: Thank you! :)

Belinda K: By the time you had registered your opinion, I was 100% sure I need to wear this outfit again when I need a pick-me-up. You all have given me a lot of confidence...this outfit will be one of my tried and trues, for sure! Thank you!

JTS: I rarely do tonal, but seeing how it worked here, I need to do this again and with different colors! Thank you!

3PP: Thank you!!! I loved both outfits so much and I felt so good both days. I have not been able to "bring it" (so to speak) these past days but I know that everyone has AWESOME days, GREAT days, GOOD days, and then UGH days. :)

I think I will wear my olive Bria cami to the tea party. What are you wearing?

Alexis: Hey, hon. Glad you are feeling better. You poor thing with all the crud going down over at JCA. I think the past day or two it has seemed really fresh and pleasant...so yay!

Thank you for your compliment...coming from you, who has seen J. Crew styled wonderfully on many different individuals, makes my day. I truly appreciate everyone's nice thoughts!

Slastena: You crack me up. ;) I love that you love this...I am so happy with this look...Can't wait to see you and all the other ladies this Saturday.

JNJ: I saw all the other colors this morning. I may have to consider the melon in a petite. Hmmm...

Good luck getting the pewter...that is such a great neutral!

Tastymoog: So you are from VA? I am originally from CA, but I have been living in VA for over 25 years, so this is obviously home. I have been here since I was small.

I think the signs point for you to move back south. :)

Good luck with everything. I know very little about the issue over at JCA (only glanced at that post that was controversial) but I do know that things can get dramatic, fast, when the medium of the internet comes into play. I remind myself constantly that there are real, live people on the other end of my comments and that I should be nice and diplomatic. But there was the one time I was over at JCA and I begged for Alexis to shut down a post because people were being awful to one another (and used the metaphor of a teacher and her class) and was made fun of for my class president tendencies (and they said, I didn't realize we had elected dinagideon to the job of the class president). Needless to say that burned me enough to stay away from all negativity. (Actually, I remember one other time when someone thought I had called them anorexic. That was weird...I re-read my comment and the person obviously had read her own thing into it because me comment was not worded that way at all.)

Good luck...and have a very nice day!

I am from MA, but lived in VA for almost 3 years. I've also spent a few years in PA (first time was grad school and just moved back about a year ago). I am definitely going to try to take a long weekend to VA this summer, and do some thinking about my next move!

Yeah, things can get weird, fast. I'm not a teacher, but I find it very disturbing that there was so much venom aimed at that profession in several posts. Tone is a hard thing to read... but then if you put a smiley face next to your words to show you aren't saying something in a mean way, some people think you are being 'snotty'! Sigh. oh well. I think things will be ok. :)

Ok, Dina, just posted my JCA Tea Party outfit on Polyvore. I am now committed. And it's off my mind... :)

Can't wait to see you in the olive Bria - bet it's just as gorgeous on you as this outfit.
