A Blushed Tweed Pencil Skirt for a Thanksgiving Feast!!!

Although I didn't win (or come in 2nd or 3rd) the Polyvore contest for the best Thanksgiving outfit, I still LOVED the entry I created...and true to form, I actually wore said outfit on Thanksgiving. Since I was combining the look I created with my other blog's function (Mid-Century Mom), I needed to have a very ladylike, retro look that day.

I wore this outfit because I wanted to look nice, of course, but also because I would be attempting to set the table and make some soup while in this get-up. Nowadays many folks do all the chores, etc., in their casual gear (sweats and the like), but for the mid-century mom that wasn't an option. So that is what I did on Thanksgiving, I got dressed BEFORE I started my chores. By the time dinner was served, I was very comfy in my dressy outfit and found that because of the more "restrained" feel of the pencil skirt, I didn't eat nearly as much as I normally would have (by the way, I LOST five pounds while on vacation...maybe there is something to the whole dress up to eat thing...).

Anyhow, check out the results of my experiment "Mid-Century Mom Sets the Table."

And here is the outfit before the chores set in. Yes, I am by the Christmas tree, and yes, that is an ACTUAL buck-head behind me. While there, Mr. Dina's uncle "bagged" an 11-point buck. (Not my words...) So you know, an 11-point refers to how many points there are on the antlers.

Mr. Dina, although he grew up around hunting, doesn't hunt himself. It is kind of like Rex not enjoying swimming. I know, shocking.

This outfit was awesome to wear. The skirt is especially pretty and lovely. I bought a six, and it is perfect in fit, maybe a wee bit too big in the waist. The nubby texture of the tweed is very soft...I kept wanting to pet the fabric. I resisted because that would have looked weird. The swiss-dot top was a huge hit with my sister-in-law who really wants one. I would have just given her mine (the 10 I bought is far too large now), but the 10 is far too large for her, too. Anyone have a 6 they want to trade with me for??? :)

The skirt can be purchased here. It is still for sale, and still full price (but there is that whole 25% off thing this weekend...). I would say stay true to size or if you have a small waist, size down.

Here is the outfit, sans cardigan.

You all have a lovely weekend. I will certainly try to enjoy mine, too. Maybe I can even post once more...we'll see!

Very pretty!

What brand are the shoes? I once had nude loafers almost exactly like those. They were BCBG, and had a wedge heel. I had them for a long time, but they were always a bit uncomfortable. So, I am on the search for a better pair!

Oh Dina... I love reading both your blogs, but PLEASE - enough with the 'this is a size 6' business!! It's obviously way too tight. Quit trying to convince us - and yourself - that it's too big on you. I commend you on your weight loss, and understand the pressure in today's society to be as thin as you can. Embrace your size, and who cares what the tag says!

From one Anonymous to another: that comment was unnecessarily snarky.

I never comment, but I read your blog all the time. I just want to say you look great in your pencil skirt.

You're right. I shouldn't have said it so harshly. I apologize. But Dina, don't sell yourself short by focusing so strongly on size, which is just a number. You're so much more than that!

Love the outfit, I was dressed up all day too. I really "heart" the skirt, I hope it goes on sale one day (soon).

My husband grew up in a hunting family too but doesn't hunt either.

I absolutely LOVE your idea for this outfit! It's so classy, I just can't take my eyes off it. You look absolutely radiant - and the colors are just incredible with your complexion. I am definitely "stealing" the idea (although I don't have this exact skirt, I can use the one I have in my closet). I can't have you get me more in trouble (I have already bought a few jcrew items based on your reviews!) LOL
Seriously, I have been enjoying your blog for a while, just never commented, but you instigated me with this outfit :) Have wonderful holidays!

Hi, all! Thanks for the great comments!!! ;)

Tastymoog: These are Aerosoles pumps, and I just adore them...very comfy and the bow is a darling detail. These are from FOREVER ago, so you probably won't find these exact pair, but I am sure you can find ones just as great!!!

Anons: I really appreciate your back and forth because it put me in a mindframe of changing things up here at my superfluities...check out my latest post to see more on that. I know that Anon #1 didn't mean to sound too harsh (based on #3 comment) but comments like that do make me feel uncomfortable, like maybe, just maybe, I should chill on being so personal on this blog...ya know??? Anon #2...swak...thank you!!!

Leslie: Ooh, I hope your husband at least appreciates how nice you look in all your new duds!!! ;) Thank you!

You look beautiful, as always :)

My blushed tweed "stand in" skirt (the tweed one I got from Talbots) is also a very soft, nubby tweed, very unlike other tweeds I've felt. Every time I wear it, I catch myself stroking my leg--must.stop.looking.crazy! :)
