Review of the Bateau Top...Striped and Ready to Go!!!

This is going to be VERY quick. Baby CW has something...hoarse cough, bad mood, you name it, she is suffering from it. Blegh. I am tired because she is tired (does that make sense)?

But I LOVE this top, so I really wanted you all to see it on someone. I will issue one caveat...I have a small mini-crush on striped tops from J. Crew. I own a red-striped top (short-sleeves), a thin black striped top (long-sleeves), multi-colored striped top (long-sleeves), and a khaki-striped top (turtleneck). So when I saw the vintage bateau top in the new arrivals this month, I kind of knew I would buy it at full-price. Yes, all, it is FULL PRICE love. :) That's commitment. I have already gotten the tiniest stain on it and ripped out the price tag. 'Tis love.

The polyvore shows accurate pieces, except the pants, which are not true. I am wearing ancient J. Crew chinos from four years ago. I really love J. Crew pants, I think they are well-made and last a LONG time.

The shearling chalet boots I got on a popback!!! SCORE! I was ready to go and ebay pay someone for a pair from a clearance center, but nope, only had to pay 80 dollars. YAY! And perfect timing, what with all this awful snow we have had (and will continue to have--10-20 inches forecast for Fri.-Sat.).

Sizes:
Top: Size small. I like it, and think the cotton is sturdy, and not see-through. I think it is cut a bit generous and long, so if you felt comfortable, you could potentially size down. I don't mind this looser cut on me, it isn't so loose that you lose my waist or anything, so that's good. And the color? Camel? GORG. I will be surprised if this doesn't sell out.
Cardigan: Size medium.
Pants: Size 10.
Boots: Size 9. (I sized down one whole size...didn't make a bit of difference. Feels to me the way the old 10s used to feel...I say size down for sure.)

See my model baby there in an old Rex crewcuts vest? Right, so precious...well, take a gander at the next shot (open the photo up for the best effect)...

Heehee, even model babies have to yawn. :^0

Close-up of the bateau top. The necklace is a outlet (I think) item, a mushroom that jingles like a bell when it is swung. The kids LOVE it. :)

Have a nice night. Maybe, with any luck, I can pre-order from BodenPreview.com tomorrow. Play nice, Johnnie!

P.S. I have been terrible commenting back on my last few posts. I will probably not post much tomorrow, instead I will focus on answering comments. :)

I share your love of all things striped and just ordered this top in pewter.Yep, FP too! I have the same mushroom pendant, it was retail only option ( not crewlet).

Gah, you two both look adorable! Pretty soon, CW is going to need her own blog! ;)

Count me in on the love for stripes - I also ordered this in the camel. Plus got a navy LE boatneck striped top, and a black-and-white striped JC sweater jacket from a few seasons ago on eBay. My wardrobe is resembling a French sailor/pirate/old time prisoner!

Lovely!
It seems like little CW is going to be America's Next Top Model! Lola is also pursuing a modeling career...

CW is quite the little model, so adorable!

I like the coloring of the tee with your hair it is flattering. I am on the fence about the tee I have trouble wearing boatnecks with my round face.

Dina what is your impression of JC sizing so far this Spring? It seems to me when I call for measurements everything is running big especially the pants. I sized down in the Scout chinos, did not bother with the Skimmer because the measurements seemed off.

I hope CW feels better soon! Isn't this winter ridiculous? Today is the first day I will be going to school all week (and we're on a 2 hour delay). And just like y'all, we have a big system moving in tonight and then ANOTHER one on Monday. Agh!!!

Love the top! I try to stay away from horizontal striped tops, so I'll probably be passing this one up, but it looks absolutely darling on you! And the camel color goes so well with your hair color!

Have a great day :)

Hi, I'm back to commenting ;-). Yes, it makes sense (my daughter is also coming down with something and didn't sleep well this night, so didn't I)!

This is the one thing in the new rollout that really caught my eye and feel like it's worth the FP, but I'm glad that you posted about it as I haven't seen it in real life yet. Looks beautiful with your hair color.
One question: you say that it's a sturdy cotton, can you compare it with somthing else from JCrew (I'm looking for something sturdy as the Loft striped top on the other side is thin).
Love you sherling boots!

Thank you for reviewing this shirt! I love it and am only debating which color to order...

By the way, some CUTE things at the Boden preview site...but I also could not place my order! The 20% shows up in the shopping cart, but as soon as I log in, I get a blank screen. I printed out my cart so I can remember what I want to try again later. (I love the Fizzy Spot Top and Straightleg Summer Capris...if only I could order them...)

How would you say the sizing compares with Perfect Fit tshirts? On those I like a medium so they are not so snug. I would have thought to order a M in this too but now you're making me think S? But I just cannot fathom myself as an S. Has anyone seen this in stores? Looks like I need to call around today.

It looks so awesome on you. I *love* it under the cardigan and I love this camel color. You will get so much wear out of this shirt - a great full price buy!!

Looks fab on you! I've been eyeing the grey one...so now I've seen it "on" someone, I'm going to commit too!

Sorry about poor CW - emma sends kisses!

Ok, I've seen you and FFM don this shirt, and I'm convinced that I should have it too. Hmp.

But seriously, if I wasn't in such a tightening-the-belt-and-purse-strings mode, I'd be all over this shirt! I do love me some striped bateau shirts. :)

I hope CW gets better real soon!!

Glad you posted a pic. I ordered this last week (pre-ban) in the gray and I sized down, and I'm glad I did. I know I'll love mine now!

I love the striped top, it fits you really well. Have you checked out the long sleeve strip tee at Ann Taylor Loft? it is also very pretty.

You girls both look great! Congrats to you for even getting dressed, let alone looking so put together... I'm in sick toddler H-E-double-hockey-sticks right now and am not looking the freshest.

Stay warm and cozy with all the snow coming your way!

like the camel stripes... I am glad that the baby is showing us how to mix prints; that can be a challenge. About 10" of snow here I think... and still snowing.

Hi Dina,
I know this is off topic, but I was excited to see a spread in the latest issue of InStyle on the Liberty of London collection at Target and with Mac cosmetics. I thought of you immediately. You should check it out. The prints are beyond gorgeous.

Dina, Love the way you put this together. A question... Have you washed the stripe shirt yet? I was curious as to whether it shrinks.

Also, have you checked out the Lands End kids yellow stripe sailor tee? It's almost a match for the camel stripe tee, and I thought you and DW would look cute in (almost) matching tees. My 7 year old daughter is excited about this prospect.

I *really* love that striped top! And I love how striped tops never really go out of style. I think tastymoog mentioned this on one of her posts today, too! The color looks so lovely on you, and love baby CW yawning in the back, haha!

Hi, all!!! I have been BURIED under so much snow that I have been unable to check my own blog...

Love your comments and I am really glad that this post helped push some of you to purchasing this top. It really is a very nice top. :)

casual-crew: I am not purchasing any new pants this season (have more than enough), but I will try on a pair of skimmers and report back to you all!!! :)

Ema: The cotton is not quite as thick as the perfect fit, but definitely not like the tissue...I would say right in between. It is very nice cotton, too. Soft!

I love my shearling boots, too. They have been very VERY helpful to me this last week. I have gotten enough use out of them for multiple winters...all in one week! Crazy!

Ann: I hope you were able to pre-order. I eventually was able to, maybe on Thursday? It all seems so long ago. LOL. :)

Kristin: I wear a small in the perfect fit, but I chose to get a small in this, and I would still purchase a small, even though it runs bigger than the perfect fit...I kind of like how it isn't too fitted...

Cloggsy: CW sends Emma some right back!!!

S.: Hi! I haven't...with Ann Taylor, I really need to try on first (there sizing is wonky on me), and with the weather, I haven't gone anywhere!!! Maybe next week???

C.: I saw that CW was all "mixed-up," and you are right, it does work!!! ;)

Jean: I knew that Liberty was coming, but didn't know there was a preview in In Style. Oooh, now I want to go out and brave the cold to get that mag! (Just kidding, but I will definitely get it when we dig out!)

Anon: Great tip! Thank you...I will go and see if I can get her one...I love matching, even when it borders on kind of silly...only can do this for a little bit, so might as well milk it for now! :)

You all stay warm. If you are in the DC/Richmond/Baltimore area...stay ELECTRIFIED!!! :)
