Happy Mardi Gras!
So this is the second post in as many weeks where I am celebrating Mardi Gras. Well, today there is no party, only a field trip to an art museum, but I had to show the world that I at least recognize today as Fat Tuesday. Mmmm...eat, drink, be merry, SHOP, because tomorrow starts the fasting. :)
I also needed to be "dressed" up for the museum but wear something that would keep me semi-warm (it is COLD out there) and would allow me easy access to pumping (yeah, fun times at the National Gallery of Art bathroom).
So there you go. That is why there is a yellow cardigan (not really the one from J. Crew, but a darn good facsimile--see that other post I did on "a look for less" for more info), a purple Emerson blouse, brown pants (had to have a neutral), and metallic avocado mocs (green). NO way was the trench warm enough. I wore a michelin man coat instead. Let's celebrate! Wooh.
By the way, turns out the National Gallery of Art is the only museum in the ENTIRE Western Hemisphere with a Leonardo daVinci. My kids in my group seemed slightly underwhelmed by this fact! PEOPLE--THE ONLY ONE. Ugh...kids. ;) At least one or two seemed slightly interested eventually.
Polyvore for this Mardi Gras spectacular? Here: http://www.polyvore.com/purple_yellow_brown...early_spring_for/set?id=6621836
On me this morning...wet hair and all. Ah, you all have seen way worse! I am wearing the proper size fitting pants. :) Finally!
Here is a shot of Rex (kind of)...he deigned to be in a photo. :)

Yeah, I can post! I love your outfit today. So festive and fashionable.
Happy Mardi Gras! Such a festive outfit. Hope you enjoyed the museum!
The outfit looks great on you! And the pants are fab. I'm starting to hate that when I wear my matchstick cords they make this "veet-veet" sound as my thighs rub together when I walk. I have "muscular" (I use that term loosely) thighs but perhaps I should not wear matchstick anything.
I like the Mocs with this. Great outfit! I love to check out what you are wearing!!
Thanks for the tip on the comments!! I've had 2 calls saying it hasn't been working. I hope I've fixed it now!
I think this is bold and looks great. You are the only person I know that likes to dress up and celebrate holidays! Also I have noticed you are looking slimmer! Im proud of you as it is hard to lose weight and keep motivated. I used to be in really good shape 5'7 a size 6 and 130 lbs w/ a 6pack. Now Im size 10/12 and 160 lbs ughh I dont know what happened. Ive become self concious now because my stomach isnt flat and I feel like im sucking it in to look good in clothes. I want to become fit again, not to look good in a bikini, I dont even like wearing bathing suits. I want to have more energy and not get depressed so easily from people judging me and my weight issues. So you are an inspiration for me. You have alot on your plate and always look stylish and happy being a wife, mother, teacher and everything in between Thank you Dina, -Maggy
I noticed on another blog (The Velvet Diary), that you were thinking about getting an apron sometime. Here is a website with some fun options: http://heavenlyhostess.com/our_products.html. I haven't purchased one yet but might for next year's holiday cooking baking!
Dina and Lake Nokomis,
I work a few blocks from the actual Boutique "Heavenly Hostess" in Orange, CA. I have been in a few times and they have a lot of fun aprons as well as perfume, stationary, candles and jewelry.
To add to the apron comments... after wanting one for a really long time, I finally got one a few years ago (on sale at the Williams-Sonoma outlet) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I use it way more that I thought I would cooking, and it's helpful for other things, like when I polish silver. Definitely go for it! And I'll have to check the heavenly hostess website.
Joyce: I love that we can finally comment to everyone's post. I was able to comment on sites last night that I couldn't the night before, so it seems even if you didn't fix your site the way we did, everything was fine...but I still think I am going to keep my commenting this way! I hope you had a nice night last night...the purple cami was perfect for Mardi Gras!
HeidiG: I love that museum...The Natl. Gallery of Art is such a beautiful place!
I am going to check out all these apron places you all suggested. My aprons are very utilitarian...you know, white and stained! Thanks for the suggestion...
KatyO.: You crack me up. The veet-veet sound. I never notice, but I can imagine that would be annoying!
I have "swimmer thighs." That is my nice way of saying that red beans and rice didn't miss them...haha. :)
I love my matchstick cords and think all ladies should wear them. Didn't expect to love them, but I do!
Beth: Thank you for coming on over and looking. I was a little worried about the yellow and purple and bright mocs, but, eh...you know...live a little and all!
Lissa: My pleasure. I imagine your lovely friends and family wanted to comment and couldn't...frustrating, for sure!
Mslay: Thank you for posting pics of yourself on your blog yesterday. I did not get a chance to comment (I will today) but you are so pretty! I feel what you are upset about, though. I was for years so thin and felt that if I couldn't feel my hip bones protruding and couldn't see my clavicles very clearly, then I was teetering on the edge of "huge." Which is absurd, but I had issues at the time.
Through a lot of help and self-reflection, I realized I could be bigger than that and still feel pretty and be special. Don't get me wrong, there are still way too many days where I am upset that I can't feel my hip bones and see my clavicle as clearly as I would like, but they are becoming fewer and fewer. Even my goal weight is fairly reasonable, not my stick-insect 129, but a fleshier 150-155.
I am honored you look here for inspiration. Your blog inspires me...so beautiful and creative and thought-provoking.
Also, I am going to check out the shop you and Lake Nokomis have suggested! :)
Lake Nokomis: Yes, I will check them out! Thank you...I can't wait to at least look like a domestic goddess!
Thanks for all the pics you're posting! It's so fun to see everyone in their outfits IRL! You look great! :)
FFM: Thank you for coming on by...I see you are following me now...woohoo...I am honored!
